Memorials held to commemorate 300,000 Nanjing Massacre victims

Date: 2012-12-13

BEIJING, Dec. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- A series of memorials have been held in Nanjing to commemorate the estimated 300,000 Chinese killed by Japanese troops during World War Two. The events were held a day before the 75th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre.

People gathered in the Memorial Hall of the Victims in the Nanjing Massacre by the Japanese Invaders, to remember the dead. On December 13th, 1937, Japanese soldiers occupied Nanjing, and brutally killed between 250,000 and 300,000 Chinese. Victims included civilians, unarmed soldiers, women and children.

Nanjing residents are holding a vigil in the Memorial Hall Wednesday night. City officials also plan to have large-scale gatherings and memorial acitivities on Thursday.
